The Research Integrity Game is a browser-based training game for early-career researchers, built on the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2018) and its supporting guides. In Mode A, you play a first-year researcher facing forty short, fictional but realistic scenarios: gift authorship, quietly deleted data points, undisclosed consultancies, ghost-written peer reviews. For each, you judge the conduct (fine, questionable, or breach) and pick an escalation move, then see how an expert panel and its level of consensus compared. In Mode B, you sit on a Human Research Ethics Committee: flag concerns in an application, deliberate, vote, and draft conditions.
Players learn to recognise and classify research conduct against the Code's principles of honesty, rigour, transparency, fairness, respect, Indigenous recognition, accountability, and responsible culture, including human and animal research ethics. They learn where the line sits between poor practice and breach, and why some calls are genuinely contested. They practise choosing a proportionate response: letting it go, raising it directly, consulting a Research Integrity Advisor, or reporting formally. Mode B adds ethics-review skills: spotting coercive recruitment, consent and data-use problems in an application, contributing under pressure in committee deliberation, and turning concerns into workable approval conditions. Mastery is tracked per principle area.
Teachers can test (free play), assign and purchase games for their classes after signing in.
